SHANE CONNERY

A decade has passed since I left Norton House and the black and white gates of Selborne College in East London. It has been a wonderful free spirited 10 years without the daily torture of routine and regimentary uniforms. I have decided as we approach this milestone, an important "My God" milestone, that a website should be set-up so we can all discover what old friends or old adversaries have experienced.

This is my story.

I left Selborne College at the tender age of 17 and traveled up to Pietermaritzburg were I studied for my IMM (Institute of Marketing Management) at the infamous Damelin business school. I completed the diploma and after convincing my father that I was no longer an aspiring middle distance athlete he allowed me to travel abroad.

December 1995, London, Crickelwood, kitchen floor, my new home. I may have been a damn site far away from comfort but I was only a chip and putt away from "freedom" .My first year involved working at Linklaters & Paines a law firm in the heart of the city. I was the glorified filing clerk and loved the fag breaks and Essex piss taking.

A year had passed and a childhood passion still burned inside me, so I signed up with the banking agencies and started a 3 month temporary contract with Citibank, after a year I was selected for participation in a 7month traineeship program in Zurich where I spent most of my time on the piste snowboarding and the rest of the time based in the Foreign Exchange and Treasury departments.

I returned to London in 1998, meddling in Fund Management for a year and a half. However that was more than enough time as the smelly tubes and morning sardine run into the city was eating away at my character, so I arranged a transfer to Jersey in the Channel Islands and decided to become a Compliance officer as I thought a well deserved break would be in order.

I was so wrong but for all the right reasons because in 2000 I got married and 11 months later my wife Zoe gave birth to my son Joshua Connery. In 2001 I completed my Investment Management & Financial Markets (IMC & ACI) qualifications with IMRO (UK) and finally got invited to join the Citibank Treasury desk as a Money Market dealer, trading the EURO and STERLING in the Treasury and Derivatives markets. I also enjoy bashing the RAND about when it suits.

2004 gifted me with the second addition to my family when my daughter Tayla Connery was born in March.
